Love is not optional for some selected few. It is compulsory for everyone who wants to have a successful relationship and marriage. What is tearing many relationships and marriages apart is not lack of money but lack of love. If you trace every domestic violence, separation, stormy marriage and divorce you will discover that love is missing in the union. Love is a school you will never graduate from. You can never finish learning about love. In this post, I want to share with you 10 Commandments of Love you need to know to be successful in your relationship and marriage. Whether you are Single or married, this post is for you. Read with confidence, you will get value.

1. You must honour God in your relationship and put Him first in Your love life- 1 Sam 2:30
A relationship that does not honour God will eventually end in shame. One of the Commandments of love in relationship is to honour God in your relationship. Don't do things that will offend God and make Him turn His back on your relationship. Don't please your partner and displease God. When your relationship and marriage is one that honours God, it will surely be honored by God and men. Things work in relationship when we put God first in our relationships and marriage. Give God His rightful place in your relationship and harmony is guaranteed.

2. You must love your partner with all your heart, His God shall be your God and his people shall be your people.
And Ruth said, Intreat me not to leave thee, or to return from following after thee: for whither thou goest, I will go; and where thou lodgest, I will lodge: thy people shall be my people, and thy God my God. Ruth 1:16
Love does not discriminate. Perfect love is the bond of unity. If you truly love your partner, you must love his or her people also. I have seen ladies who say, I love him but I don't love his mother. That's against the Commandments of love. Your love for any man or woman on the basis of relationship and marriage demands that you must love their people. You must love his or her father, mother, brothers, sisters, uncles and kinsmen. You may not ordinarily want to have anything to do with  that tribe but if you are really in love, you have no choice. You must love his or her people as you love your own people. You must also love their God, their faith and beliefs. Don't fall in love with someone you are not ready to love his/her people. If you will not love his/her faith and beliefs, please don't fall in love with that man or woman.

3. You must  not cheat.

Moreover it is required in stewards, that a man be  found faithful. 1 Cor 4:2
One of the core Commandments of Love in relationship is faithfulness. Until you are faithful to your husband or wife, your marriage cannot work. Real men don't date several women at the same time. A real man is a man who can love one woman and be faithful to her forever. A virtuous woman is not one who covers her ears and head every Sunday. A virtuous woman is that woman who is eternally committed to one man and faithful to him for her lifetime. Playing fowl in town doesn't make you a smart man, especially when you are married. It makes you stupid. Cheating on your husband doesn't change your status, it makes you an adulterer. A cheat is a meat for the devil, sickness and diseases. Cheating will make you a prisoner of gonorrhea, syphilis, genital warts, and HIV. Cheating will cheat you mercilessly. It will reduce you to a loaf of bread. Love is against cheating in relationship and marriage.

4. You must  not beat your partner or hurt him/her with abusive words.

Wherefore they are no more twain, but one  flesh. What therefore God hath joined together, let not  man put asunder. Matt 16:6
Have you ever seen a He-goat beating a she-goat? No, a He-goat fights with his fellow He-goat to defend his wife (she-goat).  So if a common animal like He-goat doesn't fight with a She-goat, any man that is beating his wife, a goat is better than him. Can you beat yourself? Even a mad man does not beat himself. The scripture says that your wife's body is your body. So beating your wife is beating yourself. And that's insanity. The fourth Commandment of love says you must not beat your wife. No matter your level of provocation. Wife battering reduces a man to a beast. Real men protect a woman. They don't beat her. Now listen to me dear lady, I know that you have fire in your tongue and like to pour it all out as it is boiling in your heart. But it is not everything that is worth saying, especially when you are angry. There are words you will say in anger which you will forever regret afterwards. The true test of feminine maturity is your ability to hold yourself and say nothing, even when you are offended. Abusive words and insults may take a long time to heal, but their scars never go out from the memory.

5. You must be a giving and caring partner.

For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life. John 3:16
True love gives. You can give without loving but you can't love without giving. Relationship and marriage is a union of two givers. Not one giver and one taker. For God so loved that He gave. If you truly love him or her, you must give. What do you give? Yes money is included but it's not the only thing. Please single brothers and sisters, anyone who claims to have given you His or her heart but can't give you his/her money, please run for your dear life. That's a fake love. Where your heart is, that's where your money should go. Apart from money, attention, affection, appreciation, encouragement, inspiration etc are things you can give to your partner if you truly love him or her. What many people call love is sex. But sex is not love and love is not sex. Love is giving, love is caring. Love is God.

6. You must work smart to earn a good income.

A feast is made for laughter, and  wine maketh merry: but money answereth all things. Eccl 10:19
The first thing God gave to Adam was work before He gave him a wife. Therefore, as a man you must look for finance first before you begin to look for romance. Because romance without finance will be a menace to your marital life and destiny. Single sister, the first question you should ask the guy asking you for a relationship is, what work do you do? It's not do you love me? A man who doesn't have a hand work or any genuine means of livelihood shouldn't be found looking for a wife. He needs to find work first. Remember God said any man who doesn't work should not eat. So do you want someone's daughter to die of hunger? Bro, please look for work first. Women will never finish. Marriage and relationship comes with a big responsibility. There are bills to pay after the romance. House rent, electricity bill, baby's diapers, baby's food etc can make a man develop high blood pressure except the man is financially prepared for it. Man must work. That's not a curse, it is a Commandment of love for successful relationship and marriage. Because money makes marriage sweet. Love without money can send anyone to early grave.

7.  You must be committed to your partner in everything.

Look not upon me, because I  am black,  because the sun hath looked upon me: my mother’s  children were angry with me; they made me the keeper  of the vineyards; but mine own vineyard have I not  kept. SS 1:6
Successful and happy marriage doesn't fall from the sky. Any where you see Happy and hitch-free relationship or marriage, someone worked for it. How you make your bed is how you will lie on it. Bro, take care of your wife and invest in her life, then you will see her beauty come out. Don't ignore your wife to suffer and be throwing money on your side chicks. When you return back you are going to meet an odd looking creature in your house and guess who that is, your wife. Don't admire another man's beautiful wife when you can't even give your wife money to change her underwears which have torn beyond stiching.  Commitment is a Commandment for a successful relationship and marriage. Commitment is not in grammar but in input, effort and Labour you are putting into the relationship to make the marriage work.  Nothing works by itself. If you want your relationship or marriage to work, you must be willing to put in the requisite effort to make it work. That's commitment.

8. You must be humble and down-to-earth.
Arrogant and proud people don't succeed in relationship or marriage. Successful relationship and marriage are for humble people. If no one is good enough to talk to you, you are a proud person. If no one can correct you or rebuke you, then you are a proud person. If you easily get angry when people tell you that you are wrong, check your pride. If you are always right in your own eyes and every other person is wrong in your eyes, pride is killing you from the inside. Couples who can't say sorry are more arrogant than lucifer. It is pride that makes a Married Person want to win an argument that will make him or her lose the spouse. Humility is a Commandment of love. Do you know  why? See the reason in this scripture below.

For God resisteth the proud, and giveth grace to the humble. 1 Peter 5:5
9. You must protect your partner.

A relationship without protection is open for delusion  and destruction. True love will attract jealousy and conspiracy of the enemy. You need to watch each other's back. Don't take it for granted when you notice an intruder trying to spoil your relationship or marriage, especially if that person is of the opposite sex. Stand your ground and fight for your relationship and marriage. Do whatever you can to save your marriage from the hands of husband snatchers and home breakers.

10. You shall praise your partner.
A relationship without Praise will have pressure. Appreciation is an application for more. What you appreciate will get better but what you don't appreciate will depreciate. Praise your spouse in private and in public. Appreciate your spouse and praise him or her before your friends, relatives and family members. It will increase the respect your friends and relatives will have for your spouse. How you talk about your spouse before your family members, friends and neighbors will determine how others will treat your spouse. Remember those who don't respect your spouse invariably will not respect you. Don't give anyone a reason to insult your spouse. Anyone who insults your spouse has insulted you. Therfore learn to appreciate, Praise and celebrate your spouse. It is a Commandment of love.
