When the fear of God is in a place, there won't be any need to worry about evil in such a place. You can leave your house open and sleep in the night if everyone in your neighborhood has the fear of God because no one will break into your house to steal your belongings. When the fear of God is in the corridors of power, godly policies are made to promote the standard of living of the people to the glory of God. Permit me to say that, our society is gradually losing moral values, the fear of God is not in certain places among us. This is why the message of this post is timely. We need to bring back the fear God in our families, communities and nations. We need to teach our children to fear the Lord. Only then can we be certain of a bright future. What is the Fear of God?
The fear of God is not an attitude of being sanctimonious. It is not carrying a big bible. Someone can carry a big bible yet he doesn't have the fear of God. The fear of God is not a holier than thou attitude. There are people who claim to be more holier than angel Gabriel in the public but commit grevious crimes behind closed doors. Having the fear of God is not about being religious. There are people who attend all religious events held in the church from year to year who don't show any element of the fear of God when you do business with them. What is actually the fear of God? The Bible says,
"The fear of the Lord is to hate evil: pride, and arrogancy, and the evil way, and the froward mouth, do I hate." Proverbs 8:13
The Fear of God simply means to hate evil. Anyone who likes evil does not fear God. If you like to tell lies, you don't have the fear of God. If you like to cheat people you don't have the fear of God. If you like to kill and shed innocent blood, you don't have the fear of God. If you condole evil, there's no fear of God in your heart. To fear God means to hate evil and iniquity.
What is the fear of God? It means a burning heart for God. It means being jealous for God. The fear of God means love for God. The Fear of God means to love God and hate iniquity. If you claim to love God but don't hate iniquity, your own fear of God is not authentic.
Speaking about Jesus Christ the Bible says,
"Thou lovest righteousness, and hatest wickedness: therefore God, thy God, hath anointed thee with the oil of gladness above thy fellows." Psalms 45:7
What is the fear of God? It means a holy reverence for God. To fear God is to respect and honour God. The depth of your honor and reverence for God determines the boundaries of your fear for Him. If you don't have respect for God, then you don't have the fear of God.
The foundation of the life, Ministry and anointing of Jesus Christ was the fear of God. Anyone who has the fear of God will love righteousness and hate sin. You can't love the two together. This is where our problem lies. There are some of us, who love God but they also love to sleep with another man's wife. That's a dangerous combination. As light cannot mix together with darkness, you cannot mix sin with righteousness. You can't serve God and still serve the devil at the same time. You cannot belong to Jesus Christ and still belong to worldly and evil cults. You cannot be on a journey to heaven and still be going to hell at the same time. The fear of God is to love righteousness and hate iniquity. When one has the fear of God, sin will irritate him easily. When the fear of God enters into the heart of a man or woman, it makes the person to become a God-addict.

1. The Fear of God guarantees Access to Revelation and Covenant Secrets of God- Psalms 25:14
One of the benefits of the Fear of God is that it qualifies a mortal man to have access into the revelation of the covenant secrets of God. God has secrets. The secrets of God made Job the richest man in the East in his days. God doesn't show His secrets to everybody. He shows His secrets only to those who fear Him. If you don't walk in the fear of God, you may read the Bible back to back yet it will never make any meaning to you. It is the fear of God that empowers us to know the deep mysteries of God which are beyond human reasoning and understanding.
2. The Fear of God guarantees Long life- Psalms 34:11-14
One of the benefits of the fear of God is that it guarantees Long life. When you fear God, God will satisfy you with long life. The secret of long life is not only eating good food and doing good exercise, if you continue to walk in iniquity without the fear of God, you are cutting short your life without knowing. The secret of long life is the fear of God. When you fear God, what kills others will be afraid of you. Those who fear God are a terror even to death. You can't walk in the fear of God and die premature. The fear of God averts premature death. It adds more years to your life span. If you want to live long, fear God.
3. The Fear of God guarantees Angelic ministerations- Psalms 34:7
One of the benefits of the fear of God is that it qualifies you to be under the survelance and guard of Angelic beings. When a man fears God, he is not only protected by police dogs, He has angels as security guards. You know Angels are invisible to the optic eyes. They are swift in their operations. You know Angels are very strong and powerful. One Angel can kill and destroy over 1 million armed soldiers regardless of whatever sophisticated weapons such soldiers may be carrying. The Fear of God gives you the honor to move and walk among Angels. You become surrounded by Angels. Hallelujah.
4. The Fear of God empowers Your Children to be Great on the earth- Psalms 112:1-2
The blessings of the Fear of God don't only end with you, they also impact your children. One of the benefits of the fear of God is that it brings God's blessings upon your children, causing them to be great and mighty upon the earth. If you want your children to succeed, walk in the fear of God and also teach your children to fear God. The best way to preserve the destiny of your children is to walk in the fear of God and ensure you train your children to fear God and keep his commandments. Your seed is not only limited to your biological children. Your seed can also be your business, your product, your vision etc. When you walk in the fear of God, everything you do prospers effortlessly.
5. It guarantees lasting wealth and Riches- Psalms 112:1-3
One of the benefits of the Fear of God is that it empowers us for lasting wealth and riches. Everyone in the Bible who practiced the Fear of God as a lifestyle experienced God's blessings in the area of wealth and riches. Abraham was a friend of God, he had the fear of God yet he was very rich in silver and gold. David was a man after God's heart, yet he was very wealthy. Anyone who tells you that unless you do money rituals you cannot be rich is deceiving you. Anyone who tells you that the only way to become rich is through internet fraud is a devil in human form. Christian Purity with massive prosperity is a possibility in the kingdom of God. You can have the fear of God and still have wealth and riches in your house. God can make you rich!
6. The Fear of God guarantees wisdom and understanding- Psalms 111:10
One of the blessings that come through the Fear of God is wisdom and understanding. You can't have the fear of God and be a dummy in life. Every student who walks in the fear of God eventually becomes an A- student. Reading is good, studying is great but without the fear of God, there's no wisdom and understanding. The secret of super-mental power is the fear of God. If you want to preserve your mental Dignity, stay away from sin. Nothing corrupts the mind like sin. The more one commits sin, the more his mental capacity is deteriorating. The fear of God is the beginning of wisdom. Do you need wisdom? The way to get it is the fear of God.
7. The Fear of God guarantees Supernatural Strength- Isaiah 33:6, Daniel 11:32
One of the benefits of the fear of God is supernatural strength and power. You can't have the fear of God and won't have His strength and power. Anywhere the fear of God abides, His strength and power will reside. The strength of the Lord is released upon those who fear Him. Elijah was a man who feared God, he commanded and demonstrated the supernatural strength and power of God in his generation more than anyone else. Those who fear God will be strong and do exploits. If you want to be strong in the Lord, then you must walk in the fear of God.
8. The Fear of God qualifies Us to Receive God's Mercy- Psalms 103:17
One of the greatest assets of a child of God in the journey of life is the mercy of God. For it is of the Lord's mercies that we are not consumed. What makes a man or woman qualified to receive mercy from God in time of trouble is the fear of God. God is merciful to them that fear Him. If you want God to show you mercy and help you, then you need to fear God and stay away from evil and wickedness.
9. The Fear of God guarantees Quick Answer to Prayer- Hebrews 5:7
One of the benefits of the fear of God is that it compels God to answer our prayer speedily. The prayer of the wicked is an abomination before God. It takes the fear of God to enjoy quick answers to prayer. If you want God to answer your prayer without delay any time, anywhere, walk in the fear of God. Love righteousness and hate everything that resembles iniquity.
10. The Fear of God commits God to Remember You- Mal 3:16
Every redeemed child of God has a book of remembrance before the Lord. In that book is written the acts of kindness and labour of love a man has shown to the Lord and His gospel. What compels God to open the book of remembrance for a man is the fear of God. Moreover, one can also have his name written in the good book of remembrance in his nation by demonstrating the character of integrity and good behavior. Anyone who desires his name to remembered for good in this world or in the realms of the spirit must walk in the fear of God.
11. The Fear of God guarantees Good Health- Ex 23:25-26, Isaiah 33:24
By scriptures we understand that sin and iniquity can bring sickness and diseases. For instance, there are many people today who are suffering from all manner of sexually transmitted diseases as a result of living an immoral lifestyle. When one has the fear of God, he or she cannot indulge in sexual immorality and eventually, one will be free from sexually transmitted diseases. The fear of God is a vital key to good health.
12. The Fear of God brings glory and honor to God- Job 1:8
God delights in boasting with His servants who fear Him. The fear of God brings glory and honor to the name of God. When believers fear God and keep His commandments, people see their conduct and way of life and glorify the name of the Lord. God bragged with Job because Job was a man who feared God. Can God boast with you? While the name of God is being ill-talked in many places because of the bad behavior of some people who call themselves the children of God, it is important for us to prove everywhere we go that we are a different people through the lifestyle of the fear of God being demonstrated in righteous and holy living.
13. The Fear of God guarantees family Peace- Psalm 133:1-3
One of the benefits of the Fear of God is family peace. When a man and his wife walk in the fear of God, they will love each other and treat each other with honor and respect. When there's fear of God in a family, there will be peace and unity in that family. You don't need a talisman from India to enjoy peace in your marriage, you need the fear of God in your home. Siblings who are raised in the fear of God love and cooperate with one another. If you want to enjoy peace in your family, let the fear of God be the foundation of your family.
14. The fear of God guarantees excellence in the marketplace
One of the things the fear of God can do for your workers and employees is that it will motivate them to be the best and do their best without supervision. People who don't have the fear of God can't help your business to grow. The best thing God can do for you is to give you a team of employees who have the fear of God. You won't need to talk too much to motivate them. The fear of God in them will drive them to become good ambassadors of your brand. Don't hire anyone who doesn't fear God to work for you. They may destroy your business before your very eyes and won't even feel any remorse about it. Work with wise people who fear God ( Prov 13:20).
15. The fear of God guarantees national Transformation- Psalms 33:12
Can you Imagine how our communities, cities, sates and nations would have been if all the citizens have the fear of God? A nation whose citizens have the fear of God will become a heaven on earth. You can park your car anywhere you want and no one will steal it. You can leave your house open and no thief will break into your house. The greatest need of every nation is the fear of God. When the fear of God returns in the heart of the people, the nation will enjoy peace and serenity. The fear of God in the people guarantees national transformation. Sometimes, the government is not the problem of the nation but all the citizens. If every Nigerian will walk in the fear of God, there won't be any need for Prisons or Court anymore. If every American will walk in the fear of God, there won't be need for the Police to patrol on the road anymore. Blessed is that nation whose God the Lord is.
16. The Fear of God guarantees supernatural Protection- Isaiah 59:19, Isaiah 54:17
Another benefit of the Fear of God is supernatural protection. God protects those who fear Him. The fear of God brings a man or woman to dwell in the secret place of the most high where no evil can touch him or her. When you walk in the fear of God, you come under divine cover where no weapon formed against you shall prosper. The fear of God surrounds one with God's divine presence where the wicked one cannot touch him. Nothing provokes supernatural protection like the fear of God. God knows how to shield and defend those who fear Him from all evil.
17. The fear of God empowers church Growth- Acts 2:43-47, Acts 5:11-15
Behind every supernatural church growth is the spirit of the fear of God. When the fear of God comes upon a city, the church in the city will experience supernatural growth. Nothing commands church growth like the fear of God. People don't come to church when they don't fear God. People use church to play when the fear of God is not in that church. Any church where the fear of God is will invariably grow without human publicity.
18. The Fear of God helps Leaders to do the Right Thing in Every Situation- Gen 39:7-10, Exodus 1:17
One of the benefits of the fear of God is that it helps leaders to do the right thing in every situation. Joseph was able to overcome the seduction and pressure put upon him to lure him into bed with his master's wife because he had the fear of God. The midwives of Egypt spared the lives of the male children born to the Hebrew women against the command of Pharaoh because they feared God more than man. In today's leadership space where seniors want to manipulate and control their juniors to do things which are not right, it will take the fear of God to say no to bribery in the corridors of power. It will take the fear God to defend the justice and truth when the powers that be want otherwise. To be a good leader in the eyes of people is very easy but to become a godly leader in the eyes of God will require the fear of God. Leaders who fear God don't just obey every instructions from their boss except they are right before the Lord. A godly Christian leader will rather resign from his office than comprise his faith to please any man. As we pray for our leaders, let us pray that God will give them the spirit of the fear of God that will enable them to do the right thing in every situation no matter the pressure from anyone.
19. The Fear of God helps the Believer to Walk in Holiness- 2 Cor 7:1
We are able to depart from sin and all the filthiness of the flesh through the fear of God. Men depart from evil through the spirit of the fear of God. No one can walk in holiness without the fear of God. It is the fear of God that enables the believer to say no to sin and say yes to righteousness and holiness. It is not just good preaching that makes people not to sin against God. It is the fear of God. Take away the fear of God from a believer, the next time you see him, his behavior and lifestyle may be worst than that of the man who has never heard the gospel for the first time. It is the fear God that perfects our walk of holiness. If you want to live a holy life, you need the fear of God in your heart and eyes. Without the fear of God, holiness is impossible.
20. The Fear of God delivers from the fear of man and the devil- Psalms 27:1, Heb 2:15
There's no fear in love. For perfect love casts away all fear. The fear of God is the end of the fear of man and the fear of evil. Those who fear God do not fear man. Those who fear God do not fear any evil. One of the benefits of the fear of God is that it delivers a man from every fear of the unknown. It infuses courage and confidence, making you to be as bold as a lion. When you fear God, you can dare the undarable and challenge the unchallengeable. Those who fear God, fears nothing again. The end of negative fears is the fear of God.
21. The Fear of God empowers us for Eternity in Heaven- Rev 14:13
Life on earth is a journey and opportunity for a life after death. The kind of life we live while on earth determines what our fate will be in eternity. Only those who died in Christ have hope of spending eternity with Christ in heaven. Except we live in Christ, we cannot die in Christ. It is the fear of God that empowers the believer to live a life worthy of the Lord in righteousness and holiness so that after here, one can receive the crown of life in eternity. If you have hope of spending eternity in heaven, you need to embrace the fear of God now that you are alive. Honor God and do those things that please Him.
Conclusion
"Let us hear the conclusion of the whole matter: Fear God, and keep his commandments: for this is the whole duty of man. For God shall bring every work into judgment, with every secret thing, whether it be good, or whether it be evil." Eccl 12:13-14
