One of the best treasures I have enjoyed in my over two
decades of walking with God is the voice of God. I don’t know what I could have
done in this life without the voice of God. If there is any good thing anyone
can see in my life and ministry today, the voice of God is the secret behind
it. To be honest, if there is any time I failed or made any mistake in life, I
attribute it to my inability to listen and obey the voice of God at such times.
With every sense of humility, I hear God as a man hears his friend, and it is one
of my greatest assets in life. There are many things the voice of God can do
for you that you cannot do for yourself. The voice of God has delivered me
from destruction several times. There was a time I would have had a ghastly
road accident, but the voice of God helped me to overcome it. At another time,
I was virtually kidnapped by ritualists but on getting close to the gate of
their building, the voice of God came to me, “Don’t enter that gate”. That was
how I regained my senses and escaped the onslaught of the enemy. There was a
time I would have been bitten by a snake, the voice of God came to me, “Close
your eyes and shout the blood of Jesus”. I obeyed and the snake could not bite
me. The voice of God is powerful. The voice of God gives direction and
precision to life and destiny. The voice of God will help a man reduce his
mistakes and maximize his potential. With the voice of God at your disposal,
you will disarm the enemy, no matter the tactics he uses against you. The voice
of God is indispensable for a successful and victorious living on the
earth. God speaks to different people in different ways at different times. God
has different ways of communicating His plans, thoughts, and messages to His
people at different times and in different places. One minute of negligence to
the voice of God can crash someone’s whole destiny. Thank God for your human
efforts, talents, potentials, and abilities, but one day of hearing the voice of
God is worth more than a lifetime of efforts. The voice of God is the secret
behind the making of Champions in the kingdom of God. Do you really want to know how to hear the voice of God? In this article, I will show you 12 amazing ways to hear the
voice of God. Now let’s get started.
“God,
who at sundry times and in diverse manners spake in time past unto the fathers
by the Prophets, hath in these last days spoken unto us by his Son, whom he
hath appointed heir of all things, by whom also he made the worlds” Hebrews
1:1-2
1.
God
can speak to you through dreams and visions-Psalm 89:19
One of the ways God speaks to His
people is through dreams and visions. While you are sleeping in the day or
night, God can speak to you in a vision or dream. God can reveal his plans,
thoughts, and purpose to you through vision and dreams. When God speaks to you
in a vision or dream, it is different from what transpires in a nightmare. It
is accurate and clear. God spoke to Joseph the husband of Mary in a dream. God
spoke to Daniel in a dream. God can also speak to you through dreams and
vision. Therefore, start training your spirit on how to hear the voice of God
through visions and dreams.
2. God can speak to you through the
Still Small Voice in your heart -Rom 8:16
Another way God speaks to His
people is through the still small voice of the Holy Spirit in the heart of a
Believer. Have you ever wanted to do something bad but something told you not
to do it? That was the voice of the Holy Spirit. Sometimes, some people say my
mind or my heart told me to do this or that. That still inner voice that tells
you to do good is the voice of God. The devil can’t tell you to give to God.
That voice that is telling you to sow seed into the life of your Pastor is the
voice of God. The devil can’t tell you to go and pray. You will know that it is
the voice of God when it is positive and persistent.

God
can speak to you through an audible voice in your ears- Isaiah 30:21
Do you want to know how to hear the voice of God? You don’t need to bite your finger about it. God can speak to you
through a loud and audible voice in your ear. That’s how God speaks to me in
particular. You too can grow and develop yourself spiritually to hear the
audible voice of God in your ear. Sometimes, it comes as a direction or
instruction, at another time, it comes as a sharp command. The more you
recognize the voice of God and obey it, the more He will speak to you. If you
are fond of ignoring the voice of God, He will be reluctant to speak to you
another time. You don’t need to become a Pastor or Prophet before you can hear
the audible voice of God in your ears. Any child of God who has developed a
close relationship with God and a track record of obedience to His voice can
hear the audible voice of God.
4. God can speak to you through His
Prophets-Hebrews 1:1-2
One of the ways to hear the voice
of God is through the mouth of the Prophets. A Prophet is the mouthpiece of God;
he hears from God and speaks as commanded to the people. All through the
scriptures, we saw Prophets like Elijah, Elisha, Isaiah, Jeremiah, Ezekiel,
Hosea, Joel, etc whom God used in the time of old to speak to the people of
Israel at different times when they needed direction, instruction, or help from
God. Even in this present time, God is still speaking to His people through
the ministry of the prophet. Where there is no Prophet, the people perish. God
uses the Prophet to give direction and instruction to His people in different
ways and at different times.
5. God can speak to you through the
scriptures-2 Timothy 3:16-17

If you had wanted to know how to hear the voice of God, the scriptures are the first place to start from. The
Bible is not just a religious book to be carried to a religious place of worship.
The Holy Bible contains the written word of God. The Bible contains the written
scriptures. Everything God will speak to you through the inner voice of the
Holy Spirit, the Prophets, the angels and other people, etc will never be in
contradiction to His written down word in the scriptures. The voice of God is
upon many waters (the scriptures). God speaks to us through the scriptures.
Therefore, you need to read and study your Bible every day to be able to know
the word of God.
6. God can speak to you through
situations- Romans 1:20
One of the ways God speaks to us is
through situations. Sometimes, God allows certain situations to come to His
people to teach them to be patient, humble, and completely dependent on Him. If
you want to know how to hear the voice of God, you need to become sensitive to
the situations of your life. You need to find out what God is saying in every
situation you are going through. There is a message in every mess you are going
through. There is a lesson you need to learn from every story and happening in
your life. Sometimes, God allows situations to talk to some people. But that’s
not the most recommendable way to hear the voice of God. It is better to listen
to the voice of revelation and instruction than to wait for God to use the situation to teach you a lesson. Experience is not always a good teacher. There
are some lessons of situations and experiences that always leave a lifetime scar
and irredeemable mark on the person. Please don’t push God to speak to you through
situations or experiences. Sometimes, it can be painful.
7. God can speak to you through other
people- Matt 18:16, Prov 24:6
Yes, it is true that God’s ways are
not our ways and His thoughts are not our thoughts. But God can speak to you
through the mouth of an elder, relative, friend, or anyone. It is dangerous to
be wise in your own eyes. It is risky to be in a place where no one is good
enough to advise you or talk to you. If you are that kind of person, you will
miss out on God-given wisdom and instruction. Sometimes, the voice of God can
come through the mouth of a man. No one has ever seen God before. So listen
when people give you godly counsel. Listen when your elders and those who know
more than you are talking to you. It may be God speaking to you through them. A
lot of people have entered into trouble by ignoring the wise counsel of their
elders.
8. God can speak to you through signs-Isaiah
8:18
One of the amazing ways through
which God speaks to His people is signs and wonders. Miracles, signs, and
wonders are authentic channels through which the voice of God can be heard. How
will God speak to a blind man? He will open his blind eyes. How will God speak
to the deaf? He does so by opening his deaf ears. A miracle is God speaking in
demonstration. Healing is the voice of God declaring the mercy of God to the
sick. Deliverance is God saying, I am committed to you, no matter what happens.
Signs and wonders are the authentic voice of God that can silence the mockeries
of the enemy. When the fool says, there is no God, God speaks to them in the
language they will understand better and that is signs and wonders. You can
find out what the mind of God or what God is saying concerning a situation by
asking Him to show you a sign. That was exactly what Gideon did with his fleece
(Judges 6:37-40).

9. God can speak to you through an
Angel-Rev 22:16

While we are looking at how to hear the voice of God, it is important to understand that God can speak to you
through His Angel. It was the Angel Gabriel that God used to speak to Virgin
Mary that she was going to become pregnant and give birth to a male Child who
would become the messiah and savior of the world. It was through an Angel that
God used to speak to Zachariah in the Temple when he was doing his priestly
duties in the Temple. Angels are God’s messengers. If you want to know more

God can speak to you through Parables- Mark
4:11
The mysteries of the kingdom of God
are the heritage of the sons of God. But to the unbelievers, God speaks to them
in parables. The most common way God speaks to sinners and those outside His
kingdom is in parables. That’s why they are confused. When God speaks to a man
in parables, he will look more and see less, he will hear but won’t understand.
If you want God to speak to you plainly and not in parables, then you must be
born again. Only a true child of God can hear the true voice of God.
11.
You can hear the voice of God if you are
humble-Psalm 25:9
God resists the proud but He
teaches His ways to the humble. Humility is a primary requirement in accessing
the voice of God. Pride and arrogance will deprive anyone of the privilege of
hearing the voice of God. Only the Humble can be guided by the Lord. God doesn’t
have anything to do with the proud and arrogant. He resists them! If you want
to hear the voice of God, be humble.
12.
You need the fear of the Lord to qualify to
hear the voice of God- Psalm 25:14
The fear of the Lord is an
indispensable tool in accessing the voice of God. Sin separates a man from God.
You need a commitment to righteousness and holiness to be able to hear the
voice of God consistently. Sin corrupts the heart and mind, making a man unfit
to hear the holy voice of the almighty. If you love to hear His voice, then
walk in the fear of God and His voice will not be far from you.
